Karen’s work in literacy and numeracy education includes over 14 years of experience as both a tutor and resource writer. She has worked in workplace literacy, educational organisations (both public and private), and not-for-profit groups. Karen learnt a lot from working with young asylum seekers in London; some of her learners were goat herders from Iraq who had never held a pencil in their lives!  She loved the work so much that she decided to formalise her experience, graduating in 2014 with the Master’s Degree in Adult Literacy and Numeracy for Educators from AUT.

Karen lives on a lifestyle block in Waimauku with her husband. In her free time she makes hats and paints pictures. She also enjoys walking on Muriwai Beach with her husband and their dog Watson.

Karen is a great believer in education for all and brings a wide range of skills and experience to assist our tutors and learners in their workplace programmes.
